Naomi Returns Bitter and Empty

Naomi left Bethlehem with a husband and two sons. She returns with nothing. Both sons died in Moab; her husband Elimelech is gone. She tells the women of the town: 'Do not call me Naomi — call me Mara, for the Almighty has dealt very bitterly with me. I went out full and the Lord has brought me back empty.'
