Numbers 20:1–13
Moses Strikes the Rock
Israel complains about lack of water. God tells Moses to speak to the rock. Instead, Moses strikes it twice with his staff in fury, water gushes out — and God pronounces his verdict: "Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them." One moment of anger costs Moses the Promised Land.
