The Ordeal of Bitter Water

God commands a trial for women suspected of adultery. The priest mixes dust from the tabernacle floor into holy water and makes the woman swear an oath. She drinks. If she is guilty, the water will cause her abdomen to swell and her womb to miscarry. If innocent, she will conceive children. The husband faces no equivalent trial.
