Jephthah Sacrifices His Daughter
Before battle, Jephthah vows to sacrifice whatever first comes through his door if he returns victorious. His only child, his daughter, runs out to greet him with dancing. He tears his clothes in grief — but keeps his vow. She asks for two months to mourn her virginity in the mountains with her friends, then returns to be offered as a burnt offering.
