God Makes a Bet with Satan Over a Good Man

Satan presents himself before God's court. God points proudly to Job: "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him — blameless and upright." Satan's reply: "Does Job fear God for nothing? You have put a wall around him. Stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will curse you to your face." God takes the bet. In a single day, raiders steal Job's cattle, fire falls from heaven and burns his sheep, and a wind collapses the house where his sons and daughters are feasting, killing them all.
