Hosea Buys His Unfaithful Wife Back
After Gomer has left him and taken other lovers, God commands Hosea to take her back. He finds her and buys her for fifteen shekels of silver and some barley — she has apparently been sold as a slave. He tells her: 'You are to live with me many days. You must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will behave the same way toward you.' God's commentary: 'For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones. Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God.'
