The Shout of Joy and the Sound of Weeping Are So Loud No One Can Tell Them Apart
When the builders lay the foundation of the second temple, the priests in vestments blow trumpets and the Levites crash cymbals, and all the people shout with a great shout praising God. But all the old men who had seen the first temple — Solomon's temple, destroyed seventy years before — weep aloud. Two sounds rise together: celebration and grief, hope and loss, the young exulting and the old mourning what has been replaced. The noise is heard far away. The people cannot distinguish the shout of joy from the sound of weeping. They are the same sound.

When the seventh month had come, and the children of Israel were in the cities, the people gathered themselves together as one man to Jerusalem.
