"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." Moses commands Israel to bind these words on their hands and foreheads, write them on their doorposts, teach them to their children morning and night — the declaration that would become the heartbeat of Judaism.

Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Yahweh your God commanded to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it;
