Zedekiah Watches His Sons Executed, Then Has His Eyes Gouged Out
Jerusalem has fallen. The Babylonians bring King Zedekiah before Nebuchadnezzar at his headquarters in Riblah. The last thing Zedekiah ever sees is the slaughter of his sons before his eyes. Then they gouge out his eyes, bind him in bronze shackles, and take him to Babylon. The city is burned. The temple is stripped. The walls are torn down. Everything the prophets warned for generations — it has now happened. The last sight a king of Judah sees is his dynasty being exterminated.

In the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, in the tenth day of the month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came, he and all his army, against Jerusalem, and encamped against it; and they built forts against it around it.
