Jezebel Is Thrown from a Window, Trampled by Horses, and Eaten by Dogs

When Jehu rides into Jezreel to complete his coup, Jezebel hears of it, paints her eyes, and dresses her hair — meeting death with defiance. From an upper window she calls him a murderer: 'Is it well, Zimri, slayer of his master?' Jehu looks up and calls to the eunuchs at her side: 'Who is on my side? Throw her down.' They throw her. Her blood spatters the wall and the horses. Jehu walks over her body and goes in to eat. When he sends servants to bury her, they find only skull, feet, and the palms of her hands. Dogs have consumed the rest, exactly as Elijah had prophesied.
