Elisha's Servant Lies for Silver and Is Struck with Permanent Leprosy
After Elisha heals Naaman the Syrian of leprosy and refuses any payment, his servant Gehazi runs after Naaman's chariot privately and invents a story about two visiting prophets who need silver and clothes. Naaman gives him double what he asked. Gehazi hides it and returns to Elisha, who already knows everything. 'Did not my heart go with you when the man turned from his chariot to meet you?' Elisha pronounces sentence: the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to Gehazi and his descendants forever. Gehazi leaves the tent — white as snow with disease.
