2 Kings 1:9–12
Elijah Calls Fire from Heaven on Two Platoons of Soldiers
King Ahaziah sends a captain with fifty soldiers to summon Elijah. The captain orders the prophet down: 'Man of God, the king says come down.' Elijah's answer is terse — 'If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.' Fire falls. All fifty-one die. The king sends another captain with fifty more soldiers, who delivers the same command with the same threat. Fire falls again. A third captain is sent. He falls on his knees and begs for his life. This time an angel tells Elijah: go with him.
