He burns offerings in the Valley of Ben-Hinnom and burns his children in the fire — following the abominations of the nations God had driven out before Israel. He sacrifices and burns offerings at every high place, on every hill, and under every spreading tree. God hands Judah over to its enemies because of Ahaz: the king of Syria defeats him, the king of Israel kills 120,000 in one day, and 200,000 more are taken captive. Ahaz does not become more faithful in his distress but grows more unfaithful still.
