A Prophet Disobeys God and Is Killed by a Lion on the Road

A man of God from Judah delivers God's prophecy at Bethel and is told explicitly: do not eat or drink in this place, and return by a different road. An old prophet tracks him down, lies to him — claiming an angel authorized an invitation to eat — and the man of God believes him and accepts the meal. Immediately after, God's word comes to the old liar: 'Because you have disobeyed the mouth of the Lord, your body shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.' On the road home a lion meets him and kills him. The lion stands over the corpse without eating it, as a sign.
