1 Kings 3:16–27
Solomon Orders a Baby Cut in Two
Two harlots come before the king with one living infant and one dead. Each claims the living baby is hers. Solomon calls for a sword: 'Divide the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other.' The real mother cries out — 'Give her the child alive, do not kill him!' The other woman agrees to the splitting. The king gives the child to the one who could not bear his death. The news of this judgment spreads through all Israel, and the people fear Solomon, seeing the wisdom of God in him.
