Elijah Raises a Dead Child Back to Life

The widow of Zarephath has sheltered Elijah through a miraculous drought, her jar of flour and jug of oil never running out. Then her son falls ill and dies. She accuses the prophet: 'What have you against me, O man of God? You have come to bring my sin to remembrance and to cause the death of my son!' Elijah carries the boy to his room, stretches himself over the child's body three times, and cries out to God. The child's soul comes back into him. He revives. Elijah hands him to his mother: 'See, your son lives.' She answers: 'Now I know that you are a man of God.'
